Olympus 7-14 Filter Adapter Modifications

As the Olympus 7-14mm Pro lens will only be vignette free when a filter holder has two slots instead of three you holder will need to be modified. This is very simple if the directions below are followed.
Please Note: If you order the V6 Holder Kit or the V6 Alpha the modifications will be done for you.
The directions here show the NiSi V5 Pro holder. The Adapter is now only available for the Nisi V6 filter holder, which replaced the V5 some time ago. Although the holder does look different to the images here, the steps to modify it are exactly the same.

Left – Your Adapter will be supplied with a pack of short and long screws, and a long plastic section with two holes at either end (the Security Plate). Nuts are also included. The Security Plate gives added protection against the holder accidentally being dislodged from the adapter.

Right – Remove the Nisi metal Adapter ring from the holder. Using the right size screwdriver remove all the screws fixing the rails onto the holder. Remove one plastic ‘slot’ from each side of the rails. Keep the plastic top cover on the rails attached. Retain two slots on each side, including the thin dividers between them. There is a very thin spacer that fits between the rails and the Nisi Holder which must be retained and refitted.

Reassemble the plastic slots. On each side you should have two slots, two thin spacers, and one very thin spacer. Five pieces in all on each side. A total of 4 pieces will be removed, two slots and two spacers.

Left – Fit four short screws into the positions indicated with the red circle.

Right – Fit two long screws into the positions indicated in the red circle. Note these will project out of the back of the holder.

Image 3

Left – Turn the Holder over, place the plastic Security Plate onto the screws in the position shown. Fit two nuts as shown. If there is not enough thread on the screws for the nuts please tighten the screws more. The nuts need only be finger tight. (Shown with Adapter fitted).

Right – Shown with Security plate fitted and Adapter fitted to the 7-14 lens. Please see the banner images for more details. To fit the adapter, simply push and twist it onto the lens. Ensure ‘714’ is at the top and that is firmly pushed back onto the lens. The Security Plate has long holes to allow it to slide open and closed. Open the plate to fit the holder to the Adapter, then slide it closed to give to ensure the Adapter cannot detach itself. Note, in low temperature the Adapter can contract slightly, so please fit the plate and use it. When using other lenses please use the original adapter that is supplied with the v6 and leave the plate in the ‘open’ position so that the polariser wheel will not snag. Check the nuts and tighten them periodically.

But….wow, what a terrific piece of kit!!! I now see just how much fun the filter system is, especially with the Olympus 7-14 lens. For anyone who’s been putting off buying filters for the 7-14 because of a lack of filter attachment method, the wait is over. Phil’s adaptor is beautifully engineered and manufactured. And his support was A1 too.

Being a landscape photographer I tried attaching filters with elastic bands but could not find a way to use ND’s for long exposures. This does the job perfectly and with no light leaks. I took Phil’s advice and also tried the Nisi IRND1000 despite having a Big Stopper and he was right, if you do long exposures, this is the one you need.

Can’t thank you enough for the adapter, I searched and searched hoping for a solution. It has released my lens from the burden of not being useable with filters and now I can use its full potential. What’s more Phil responded to every question, gave me tips and even called me to make sure I was happy. Great kit and great service.

I searched and searched but could not find how to use filters with the 7-14 and nearly bought an alternative lens. Phil’s Adapter came highly recommended when I searched on Social Media. Very pleased and thanks so much to Phil for all the help he also gave using filters.

Superb, it has allowed me to use this amazing lens to its fullest, works perfectly and doesn’t even take space in my bag. It fits amazingly well and I had full confidence walking around with it attached to the lens.

I was looking for a solution to use filters on the 7-14 and found Phil’s adapter came highly recommended, it is actually used widely here in Oz. Very well made and does the job perfectly.

There have been a number of ad hock attempts to solve the riddle of using filters on the 7-14. This does it perfectly. And it introduced me to Nisi. I got a new holder with adapters for other lenses AND a polarizer for half the cost I was about to spend on a Lee polarizer.
Robert Taylor, United Kingdom

Well made does the job exactly as it should and fits like a glove, very impressed with the quality and materials.

David Thompson, United Kingdom

This is exactly what I have been looking for, initially skeptical but no need, it fits perfectly, simple to use and a superb must have accessory for the 7-14 Pro.

Don Cheadle, United Kingdom

Great kit, perfect fit, thought I would have to look at a 150mm filter solution but really no need, great job!
